FWS

I received my Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt CD ( companion CD for EQ6) today. It got here in just a couple of days. I am excited...I think it will be easier to use than the templates were. It was not as easy to install as the directions said it would be...as a matter of fact, I could not do it the way they said. I had to go in and link it to EQ.
I am still battling cold and chest congestion...went back to the doctor today and got antibiotics this time. I hope I'll be in the sewing mode again soon!!

Learned Something New!!!

This afternoon I learned there is a CD for Electric Quilt 6 for the blocks in The Farmer's Wife Sampler.
I ordered it immediately. Some of my blocks were coming out 7 inches instead of 6 1/2  inches. There is also a Farmer's Wife Sampler group on Yahoo! ... I also joined it. There is also a blog  The Farmer's Wife Quilt by the book's author. (www.thefarmerswifequilt@blogspot.com

Another 2 Blocks Completed

This is Buckwheat and Birds at the Crossroads. As you can see Buckwheat is a half inch larger than it should be...so it looks like I have some ripping and adjusting to do. I have not seen the Buckwheat block before, but I like it. I think at some time in the future I will use Electric Quilt and enlarge it .
Still battling chest congestion but went to church anyway...it's just not Sunday without church. We had Children's Day...everything was done by the children under 6th grade age. What a lot of talent! I'm thankful to their leaders.

Two More Blocks

Broken Dishes and Broken Sugar Bowl are the next two additions to my completed Farmer's Wife Sampler blocks. I hope I get more done quicker than I did these two....I have fought a cold all week...and boy, did it get me dragging!! I have done some hand quilting this week...it has been a while since I picked up that PhD (Project Half Done) ! I hope that I finish it in the next two weeks...I'm not a fast hand quilter.

class photos

These pictures are of some of my students' quilts (class was offered at the local Community College). For some it is their first and for others their second or third quilt top made.  The color choices make each one unique.  The last one( with the orange) pieced  her blocks without looking at the guide and came up with a layout we all liked, too. It was her first quilt top.  One was for a baby, some were double size and others queen size. We did not have a good place to display, so some of the borders do not show. All did a nice job.

Farmer's Wife Sampler

I have been cutting out more blocks...I wanted to have 15 ready to sew. One block has 38 pieces...that's a lot for a 6 1/2" block!! I don't know how people use to cut out everything with templates...I'm so thankful for rotary cutters & mats.  I can see I need to speed up if I plan on completing it. I need to plan the class project for the next sewing class that I teach at the local Community College. The new class starts mid August.  I plan on taking the one for this session to the long armer soon.  It will be the first time I had one done by someone else. I have told my husband that by next spring I plan on having a midarm...I just have to find room for it!!!

More Farmer's Wife blocks

The Bowtie and Box were easy to construct.  Now I have made all the ones I cut out, so it's back to the cutting board. The templates are so small for some pieces that I try to do some "modern" piecing techniques (half square triangles or piece stripping ). Takes a little math work sometimes!!

New Farmer's Wife Sampler Blocks

Well...I finally got back to the Sampler. It took a little bit of work but I got the Batwing block completed. No problems with the Big Dipper block.

10 Minute Block Quilt Grows

I thought I was almost finished with the quilt and was ready to sew on the last border. I laid it on the bed and decided I would like it twice as big. The left black border will have to be taken off.  I have plenty of black and whites...so I back to cutting again. It does go very fast. The back is going to be black, white and red.
